This category is to be used for newborns, within the neonatal period (the first 28 days of life), who are suspected of having an abnormal condition, but without signs or symptoms, and which, after examination and observation, is ruled out.
Z codes represent reasons for encounters. A corresponding procedure code must accompany a Z code if a procedure is performed. (b) When some circumstance or problem is present which influences the person's health status but is not in itself a current illness or injury.
